General Site Rules  for CeCil's Siege IV

The General Rule for CeCil's Siege is common sense and courtesy,
and a respect for personal and private property.

More specific rules include:

In cases of violation of modern law, the local civil authorities may be summoned. Such violations will be considered grounds for removal from the site with forfeiture of fees. This is an official SCA event and all laws and policies of the Society and the Kingdom of Northshield apply at all times. The Event Steward reserves the right to remove anyone creating a disturbance from the event.

Local authorities (Sheriffs, Deputies, and Highway Patrolmen) have been extended an open invitation from the site steward to visit the encampment at any time during the event. Please extend them a courteous welcome to your camp. It gets boring patrolling back roads.

Vehicles will be allowed on site for initial camp set-up and departure packing only. Please move vehicles to the designated parking area as soon as unloading is complete. Properly parked vehicles should be hidden from the majority of the site area.

The Event and Site Stewards may close off traffic in and out of the encampment during rain.

Vehicles on site after dark should avoid using headlights while in the encampment.

No motorized vehicles are permitted on site except to load and unload. No golf carts, mopeds, or other such vehicles are allowed, except for wheelchairs. Special exceptions to this rule will be extended to handicapped at the discretion of the event steward.

Vehicle parking is restricted to authorized areas only. Any vehicle blocking roadways will be asked to move immediately. Troll will let you know where you can and cannot park. Vehicles are not allowed to park or drive in un-mowed areas. Horse trailers and their pulling vehicles may park in the equestrian camp.

Minors must have all waivers and medical authorizations completed and a parent or guardian on site at all times. Persons serving as guardians for minors must be at least 21years of age. Children too young to be able to tell their names and their parents' names will be required to be marked with this information in some manner. Medical armbands will be available at the Troll Booth.

Pets: Pets will be allowed on site this year for the first time. Pets have to be on a leash with the other end attached to the owner or solid object. Owners are expected to control their animals and clean up after them. Owners will be asked to remove "nuisance" animals.

Camping space on a "first come - first camp" basis.
Staff will NOT make any land allocations for camp sites other than the Royal Encampment and the Horse Camp. Anyone wishing to reserve space for others should use courtesy, common sense, and diplomacy. Marking off an area does not give title to that area; it only indicates that you wish to reserve it and asks for cooperation and consideration. There's lots of room for everyone.

Household and Group Encampments are certainly encouraged as these lend both historical accuracy and the joy of camaraderie to the event.  The Steward will make every attempt to accommodate these encampments but will reserve the right to treat them as a whole. This means the encampment will be held responsible for adhering to the rules of the event and the entire encampment can be asked to leave if it fails to do so.

Camping is only allowed in designated camping areas: Anyone setting up camp in roadways, around the main fire pit, in the archery range, on the battlefield, in the merchant area (unless a merchant) or in any other public area will be asked to move camp. Failing to do so will result in being asked to leave. The site steward reserves the right to physically remove offending camps.

Modern Campers are allowed only in the parking area. No hookups are available.

No tent stakes allowed within ten feet of line makers: Roadways and water lines in camping and merchant areas are marked by a single chalk or paint line. No tent stakes may be driven within ten feet of either side of the line.

No Holes Allowed: A large portion of the site is a historical archeological site protected by the State of South Dakota. Digging a hole in the protected areas without permission of the State violates the law and subjects the event sponsors to prosecution and fines.   Artifacts found on site (pottery shards, bones, etc) should be left where they lay and the Site Steward notified of their presence.

Fires are allowed only in provided fire pits, or portable fire pits approved by the Fire Marshal.  Fires in grills and hibachis are permitted if ash and coals are disposed of in a proper manner - do not dump on the ground.  Ashes may be dumped in the Bardic Circle fire ring or simply left in the portable fire pits for site staff to clean out. Metal trash cans for ashes are located near the port-a-potties in the center of camp. It is strongly recommended that a bucket of water or sand, or a fire extinguisher be available near any fire-pit or cooking device.

Free firewood will be available on site. Under no circumstances are any trees, tree limbs, saplings or shrubs to be cut. The only modification you may do to the site is to mow grass.

No open flames are allowed in tents.

Patio torches, candle lanterns and other flame methods of illuminating the encampment are encouraged, but must be placed an adequate distance away from tents and pavilions to leave a safe space from the tent should they be knocked over.

Garbage  bags will be distributed at Troll and should be placed near the port-a-potties when full. They will be picked up by staff.

Alcohol Policies: All States laws and SCA policies regarding alcoholic beverages will be enforced. Any minor (under 21 years of age by South Dakota State Law) involved in a disturbance that is alcohol related will be removed from the site. For more information see the page on Discreetly Wet .

The wearing of swords and unsheathed knives is discouraged after dark. The uneven ground and crowds around campfires makes them potential safety hazards to yourself and others.

Smoking is allowed on site but cigarette butts should be properly disposed of. Please help keep the site safe and clean; do not throw your butts on the ground.

After 10:30 PM we should extend the courtesy of "quiet time" to others in the campground. This does not mean that we cannot sing, drum, and party, but that we we should do it in the more public areas of the encampment rather than around tents that may have children or exhausted grandparents in them.
