by Ivan Petrovitsch, Moscow, ca. 1880-1900. Handwritten paper label
in black ink, the label and inside of violin stained brown: Ivan
Petrovitsch / Mosco. "Russian" model. Body: guitar-shaped with
curved ribs; very narrow center bouts. Top: two-piece, quarter-cut spruce,
fine grain. Back: one-piece, quarter-cut maple with prominent, very
narrow curl, ascending from treble to bass; scored mark near endpin
indicating center position. Ribs: two-piece, quarter-cut maple with
very faint, very narrow curl; first bent to guitar-shape, then carved
to a curved shape on the inside and outside and linings added. Arne
