NMM 5991. Guitar by Gibson, Kalamazoo, Michigan, 1940. Custom-built for Ray Whitley, the cowboy singer who wrote Gene Autry's theme song, "Back in the Saddle Again," this one-of-a-kind instrument, factory order #923-F with a 1 below in red pencil, was Whitley's party guitar. Ex coll.: Glenn Strange. Arne B. and Jeanne F. Larrson Fund, 1996.
