Mallets (Tabuh) Used in the Javanese Gamelan Kyai Rengga Manis Everist

Gong Mallets

The heavy gong mallets have long handles and heads padded with thick, red cloth wrapped with a red cord.
Saron Panerus Mallet

The Saron Panerus is played with a mallet consisting of a long handle to which a water buffalo horn is attached.
Sarons Barung, Demung, and Wayang Mallets

The Saron Barung, Saron Demung, and Saron Wayang are all played with mallets featuring long handles and large, oval-shaped wooden strikers.
Bonang, Kempiang, Kenong, Ketuk, Engkuk/Kemong, and Slentho Mallets

The Bonang Barung, Bonang Panembung, Bonang Panerus, Kempiang, Kenong, Ketuk, Engkuk/Kemong, and Slentho are all played with a long mallet tightly wrapped with red cord.
Gender Barung and Gender Panerus Mallets

The Gender Barung and Gender Panerus mallets feature a padded disc at the end of their sticks.
Slenthem Mallet

The Slenthem is played with a single mallet similar to that used on the Genders, featuring a padded disc at the end of the handle.
Gambang Mallets

The Gambang is played with two long, slender mallets made of buffalo horn which terminate in wooden discs padded with a ring of cloth.
