NMM 2662. Flute in C by John J. Rickers, New York, ca. 1825-1828. Conical. Four sections. Stamped on head joint: I. I. RICKERS / 187 BROADWAY / NEW YORK; stamped on all joints: I. I. RICKERS; stamped on head joint under signature: * HAMILTON * / * BLYDENBURGH * / ** 1829 ** / * *. Boxwood with ivory end cap and ferrules. One brass key. Total length, 24" (610 mm). Hamilton Blydenburgh (1811-1885), the flute's original owner, lived in Smithtown on Long Island. Ex coll.: Frederick Crane, Iowa City, Iowa. Board of Trustees, 1980.

NMM 4823. Rogers Duo Flute (combination D-flat flute / C flute / B-flat clarinet / A clarinet) with body and flute mechanism made by Alfred G. Badger, New York, ca. 1880-1892 and two head joints and clarinet mechanism added by Gustav Berhle, New York, ca. 1902. Boehm system. Three sections. Engraved on silver sleeve on both head joints: ROGERS DUO FLUTE / PAT. APR. 22-1902 / G. BEHRLE & CO. NEW YORK / MAKERS; engraved on gold plaque on both head joints: E. P. ROGERS; engraved on gold piece attached to one end cap (missing on the other head joint): E. P. R.; engraved on body at socket: A. G. BADGER / MAKER / N. Y. Complete key systems for both Boehm-system flute and clarinet. Head joints feature rotating cylinders to either expose flute embouchure hole or facilitate attachment of a clarinet mouthpiece. One head joint pitched for B-flat clarinet/D-flat flute; the other pitched for A clarinet/C flute. Sterling-silver. Ebonite head joints with sterling-silver sleeves and gold ferrules.
