NMM 3037. Flute in C by Cundy-Bettoney Company, Boston, ca. 1920-1922. Serial no. 1346. Boehm system, closed hole, C foot. Three sections. Stamped on body below tenon and on head joint: TRADE / [next two words within rectangular cartouche] BOSTON / WONDER / MARK; stamped on body above signature: A 1346 / PATENTED SEPT. 14, 1915. Nickel-silver plate. Nineteen nickel-silver keys. Total length, 26-1/8" (664 mm). Gift of Larry Kitzel, McPherson, Kansas, 1982.


NMM 10165. Piccolo in D-flat (low pitch) by Cundy-Bettoney Company, Boston, ca. 1920-1922. Serial no. 2207. Boehm system. Two sections. Stamped on body at socket: H. BETTONEY / BOSTON / 2207 / L D [flat sign] / USQMC; stamped on head joint: 2207 / H. BETTONEY / BOSTON / USQMC. Grenadilla. Sixteen silver keys. Total length, 12" (307 mm). Arne B. Larson Estate, 1989.


NMM 3135. Flute in C by Cundy-Bettoney Company, Boston, ca. 1920-1922. Serial nos. 2269 and 2851. Boehm system, closed hole, C foot. Three sections. Stamped on socket: H. BETTONEY / BOSTON / 2269; stamped on foot joint: 2851. Silver plated. Nineteen silver-plated keys. Total length, 26-1/4" (667 mm). W. Wayne Sorensen Collection, 1982.


NMM 5346. Piccolo in D-flat by Cundy-Bettoney Company, Boston, ca. 1920-1922. Serial no. 2625. Boehm system. Two sections. Stamped on socket: TRADE / [next two words within rectangular cartouche] BOSTON / WONDER / MARK; stamped below socket: L2625 / D[flat sign]; stamped on head joint above tenon: L2625. Nickel-silver plate. Fifteen nickel-silver keys. Open G-sharp key. Total length (missing end cap), ca. 11-3/4" (298 mm). Arne B. Larson Collection, 1979.


NMM 4258. Flute in C by Cundy-Bettoney Company, Boston, ca. 1920-1922. Serial no. 2946. Boehm system, closed hole, C foot. Three sections. Stamped on socket: H. BETTONEY / BOSTON / 2946; stamped on head joint and foot joint: 2946; stamped on all three joints: U.S.Q.M.C. Nickel-silver plate. Fifteen nickel-silver keys. Total length, 25-1/4" (641 mm). Arne B. NMM 2174. Flute in C by Cundy-Bettoney Company, Boston, ca. 1920-1922. Serial no. 5053. Boehm system, closed hole, C foot. Three sections. Stamped on socket: H. BETTONEY / BOSTON, MASS. / COLUMBIA MODEL / PAT. SEPT. 14, 1915; stamped on body and foot joint: 5053; engraved on body: East / Junior High / Duluth. Silver-plated. Nineteen silver-plated keys. Socket next to thumb B-flat key for palm crutch. Total length (end cap missing), 26" (662 mm). Arne B. Larson Estate, 1989.


NMM 6189. Alto flute in G by Cundy-Bettoney Company, Boston, 1922. Serial no. 5686. Model 2000T. Boehm system, closed hole, C foot. Three sections. Stamped on socket: [lyre] / [in oval cartouche] H. BETTONEY / C B CO [cursive] / BOSTON / USA / 5686. Silver body. Twenty silver keys. Left-hand lever for low C-sharp key. Total length, 34" (864 mm). Purchased by Philadelphia Orchestra in 1922 and played by William Kincaid in U. S. premier of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring under Stokowski. Later used by Joseph La Monaca, second flutist, for premiers of his own compositions for alto flute. Gift of Robert F. Cole, Montello, Wisconsin, 1988.
