NMM 4176. Beaded gourd rattle (cabaca), Cameroon, mid-20th century. Used by men in the grasslands region of Cameroon. Height: ca. 11½". Gift of Verna Syverson, Cameroon, 1987.
Verna Syverson acquired this instrument while she was a missionary in Meiganga, Cameroon. She personally brought the cabaca, along with several other instruments, to Vermillion in 1987. According to Syverson, this particular type of beaded gourd rattle was "regularly used in the area" where she worked.
