Welcome to the South Dakota Shakespeare Festival!
We are thrilled to report the tremendous successes of the inaugural season of the South Dakota Shakespeare Festival! On June 8th, 9th, and 10th, 2012, Vermillion’s Prentis Park was transformed when 1,087 patrons gathered from the local community and surrounding states gathered to enjoy free professional performances of Shakespeare’s comedy As You Like It. With an additional 100 attendees at the daytime workshops and Scholars’ Roundtable discussion, the inaugural season of the SDSF reached almost 1200 people over the course of the three-day Festival, providing artistic and educational enrichment and enjoyment for people of all ages throughout the Great Plains region.
The mission of the South Dakota Shakespeare Festival is to increase the cultural, artistic and educational offerings of the state of South Dakota and the surrounding regions by offering high quality, professional Shakespeare performance and arts education events in a lively and accessible format. We were able to accomplish our mission this year through active participation and support from citizens, businesses, civic and educational organizations, in Vermillion and our neighboring communities. We graciously thank our sponsors and supporters for making this year’s season a smashing success!

We now continue the journey of the South Dakota Shakespeare Festival, working diligently to plan and produce the 2013 season scheduled for June 14th-16th. We look forward to working with you within the coming year, as we continue to build and develop our artistic, educational and community-development services and offerings into next year and for many years to come. See you next June!
Sincerely,
Chaya Gordon-Bland, Artistic Director
