Elementary Outreach

Elementary Outreach
Why Do Outreach?

Elementary outreach is an excellent method for getting kids interested in chemistry. Not only do kids think the experiments chosen for elementary outreach are cool, but demonstrators realize that what's fun for the kids is fun for them too! So, it's a win-win situation!

When & Where?

Traditionally, ChemClub has held two sessions of elementary outreach every spring semester at Jolley Elementary and St. Agnes Elementary in Vermillion, SD.

If you'd like to help out with planning, that's awesome! Please send any interesting experiments to chemclub@usd.edu. Keep in mind a few factors:

  • it should take no longer than 10 minutes total
  • it should be easy to see from a distance of 10 feet
  • it shouldn't involve a lot of equipment
  • if it makes noise or light or moves, it's fun!
