Meeting Minutes 07-08

Meeting Minutes 2007-2008
September 24, 2007
D-days Float
The idea is to make a float of a volcano with a coyote climbing up it. In one hand the coyote will be holding the USD flag and in the other, he will be dragging along a trail of shrunken viking’s heads.
Monday, October 1st at 6pm in Old Main Room 301, we will be working on the float. Pepporoni and canadian bacon pizza will also be provided!
T-shirt Ideas
One idea is for a huge flame on the back of the shirt. The shirt will say: “USD Chem Club: The only place it’s ok to be a pyro.”
Another idea was a “Johnny was a chemist” joke
Maybe have a shirt with the structure of caffeine on it?
Also need t-shirt color ideas.
Chemistry Week
On October 23rd (Tuesday), around 2:30pm maybe have demonstrations to increase public interest in chemistry. Possible demonstration ideas included: dry ice bomb, diet coke + mentose bomb, flame tests, flaming dollar, etc.
We will also be looking at other demonstration ideas in books that we will retrieve from the chem office.
Other Announcements
Dues to be an official member are $7. Give the money to either Lois in the chemistry department office or any of the chemistry club officers.
We are thinking of a trip in the spring semester to possibly Minneapolis for a weekend. Could tour the chemistry department at U of M, other chemistry related activities, and go to the Mall of America.
This Saturday, September 29th, chem club is designing posters to advertise the next meeting. If you can help, please come to the Beede/Mickelson front desk at 2pm! If nobody appears to be around, ask the front desk for Miranda.

September 12, 2007 -- Officer's Meeting
Planned Events
Picnic on September 21st, Friday; We have a list of all of the faculty and graduate students. At this point we need to make invitations and include RSVPs by Wednesday the 19th so we have an idea of how many people are attending and who is bringing food. Chemistry Department will provide drinks. We already have some plates, silverware, and napkins…just maybe need to double check to see if there are enough of them. The picnic was decided to be held from 4:30-6pm at the south side of Prentis Park. Next officers meeting planned for next Wednesday (19th) to discuss the RSVPs and see if additional food needs to be brought to the picnic.
Upcoming
D-days float: Need to form a committee to work on the float. E-mails will be sent out to see which members are interested. Will decide on weekly meetings to work on float ideas and to gather resources. We need to know how much money we have, what materials we have, and what we still need. Also, we need a location to store the float (maybe Maddie’s house?).
September 24th at 7pm will be the next general meeting for chemistry club.
We also discussed various things such as t-shirt ideas, ACS membership forms, field/camping trips, maybe visit the twin cities?

Be at the chemistry club picnic, or be cyclobutane!! Just kidding.
